Before becoming the Satorialist, Scott Schumann worked in the world of high fashion. He is quoted on his blog saying that he felt 'there was a disconnect between what I was selling in the showroom and what I was seeing real people (really cool people) wearing in real life' - the Satorialist was born. It's a simple idea, he patrols the streets in search of these 'really cool people'. It's not just expensive fashion labels that he'll seek to photograph, but also homeless people who display a unique style, or are simply 'well-dressed' (whatever this may be). He has now become extremely influential in the world of fashion. In fact he appears to have started a fashion himself where the photographer has become as important as the model and clothing. It's not possible to compare him to likes of Mario Testino and David Bailey, his style in incomparable. He has bridged the divide between catwalk and sidewalk, or rather 'pavement'. More importantly there is an element of documentary in his work, by photographing style, he is effectively providing a social commentary of our time. Be sure to check out his work.
