From Our Own Correspondent

Ever wondered what foreign correspondents for television and radio journalists do with themselves when there isn't a story worthy of the headlines? The BBC has over one hundred journalists based abroad. The radio series From Our Own Correspondent is produced by foreign correspondents who find their country slip through the headlines, where there isn't a story that can emerge from the shadows of other international events. So, rather than twiddling their thumbs in cafes and bars, they are invited to produce short commentaries on subjects of their choice related to their location. It is a series which takes as its focus, the news behind the headlines. It essentially merges reportage with 'quite interesting' facts to produce something that is neither journalism nor news in the strictest sense. It allows journalists to produce off-the-wall monologues of opinion, commentary and history in a colloquial style.
