Rory Carnegie - Autoportraits

© Rory Carnegie

This is a fantastic idea. In this series of images, Carnegie has given the subjects a shutter cord and the ability to take the photograph. So simple, but such a brilliant idea and effective idea. The photographs are very posed, but this I think only adds to the images. Far from monotonous portrait photography, Carnegie I think has produced a social commentary. His photographs speak. The subjects have chosen when to activate the shutter; they ultimately control what we see. The subject is thus able to manipulate their image. This certainly comes across in the final images...

  2. I've linked the images to the photographers' websites. I should probably make this more obvious though as its not my work! x
